Making the Cast of Top Chef Jr.

Day 2 of Bootcamp was over and we had to wait out the results in our hotel room.  My mom and I did everything we could to act as normal as possible - watching TV, talking about the day, and indulging in a GIANT plate of french fries and pasta but it didn't calm my nerves.  I curled into a ball on the bed and watched the clock - longest hour of my life!

Some of my new friends texted that their journey on Top Chef Jr. was over.  Was I the next one to receive a knock on the door?

The longer time passed, my Mom and Dad began to theorize that maybe I was safe. Then the phone rang.  My Mom and I both ran to the phone, but neither of us would pick up.  We went back and forth saying, “you answer it!”  Finally, I picked up the phone and the Director's assistant told me to go downstairs.  By then, we were convinced that I made the cast.  We screamed, hugged each other, and jumped on the bed.  It was a moment I will never forget!

We raced to get ready and ran to the elevator.  My friend Jasmine came out the room at the same time and we were hugging and celebrating, all based on our assumption that we were safe because no one knocked on the door.

Not long after we arrived in the conference room, the casting director announced that we were the first cast of Top Chef Jr.  The room erupted and congratulatory hugs began.  I DID IT! I survived Bootcamp and would be on the first-ever Top Chef Jr.

My family was so proud of me and I couldn't help but to be proud of myself. It was one of the best days of my life!  We went back to the room and my focus set in.  The real work would begin tomorrow!
